Genie was excited to introduce the updated Genie® GTH™-1056 telehandler to its line-up earlier this year. But even new equipment needs regular maintenance to ensure that it's running at peak-performance levels.

Thankfully, design enhancements such as improved hose routing, chain retention and slide-in wear pads make it easier to perform maintenance on the GTH-1056. But what else should maintenance personnel be watching for? Here are a few things to take into consideration when operating your new Genie telehandler.

Commissioning maintenance

Pay attention to the hours of use, as your GTH-1056 requires regular maintenance around 50 or 150 hours. This maintenance includes replacing hydraulic filters, tightening belt tension, checking hose clamps, and replacing engine oil, axle differential oil, and axle planetary drive oil. All of these tasks, as well as others, can be done as needed to make sure the GTH-1056 runs smoothly on a daily basis.

Quarterly maintenance

Every three months, give your GTH-1056 a good inspection, looking out for things that may need to be repaired or replaced. These items can include checking the battery, electrical wiring, boom wear padding, tires and wheels, hydraulics, and even making sure nuts and bolts around the exhaust system are tight. You'll also want to log in to go.genielift.com with your machine's serial number for any possible manufacturer safety bulletins.

Annual maintenance

Filters are on the top of the list for yearly maintenance. Make sure you replace the hydraulic tank return filter element and the cab air intake filter element if you have one. Annual maintenance is also the perfect time to check off those quarterly tasks as well.

Seasonal maintenance

A rugged, robust machine, your Genie GTH-1056 can work in all climates, but you’ll want to make sure you’re performing the correct maintenance. In cold climates, we suggest that fuel filters be changed prior to the start of colder weather and check on whether you need to change fuel to a winter blend. In hot climates, inspect grease, which can degrade more quickly at higher temperatures, and hydraulic hoses that can become more brittle with extra UV exposure.
