Your boss has just tasked you with making a new quarterly newsletter for your rental company… Where do you start? Every employee will be looking at this newsletter, what can you possibly do that will get —and keep — their attention?
Here are a few tips for coming up with content for that will capture your readers’ attention and having them ready to read more:
- Involve everyone! Send an email out to any team members that may want to contribute to the newsletter. The more people submit from other departments, the more variety your letter has and most likely will gain more interest.
- Share company initiatives. It’s sometimes hard to communicate strategy from the owner’s office to the shop floor. Team members want to know the reason why they are working so hard. Knowing everyone is working toward the same goals brings better collaboration.
- Keep articles short and to the point. There’s no need to try to write college essays, attention spans do not last long!
- The more pictures the better. Images that attract the eyes say more than a page of words. If you have an interesting picture, more people will read what’s next to the picture.
- Get success stories from your customers. These stories should be shared again and again. We all have hard days and remembering why we do what we do can turn a difficult day around.
- Give recognition. Team members love to see their name in print, whether they are shy about it or not. Work anniversaries, birthdays, special projects gone well ̶ always find a reason to celebrate the big and little. This is great for team morale.
- Edit, edit, edit! Always make sure more than one person is looking over your work. There is something that is always missed. And don't worry, people will tell you about it.
- Add a little competition. Contests with prizes almost always get a lot of attention. If your newsletter needs a little more fun, add this on the back page.
